Hi Saul, I think Anne is right. My life style doesn't allow me to go to sleep at the same time every day. Sometimes I have to work till late in the night, and I don't get to bed before midnight. Other times I have to get up at 5 am for school or ...

Hi Vania, Since I was only a kid, and also had problems with my memory, there's not much I can remember about my recovery. I only know that my parents took me out of the hospital much earlier than I was supposed to, because of the bad health care...

The helmet saved my life

After suffering brain injury as a kid (see my prevoious blog post), I escaped from another big desaster last saturday. In the Dutch cycling race 'Groeistad klassieker' I hit a refuge at more than 55 km/h (about 35 m/h). My bike was completely trashed. I broke the frame, handlebar and front wheel. Beside the bike, I also broke my helmet on 9(!) places. Miraculously I didn't suffer any severe injuries, but without the helmet I think I wouldn't have survived this crash.

This is another proof of th… Continue

I would like to introduce myself

Hello everyone. As a new member of this comunity, I think I should introduce myself. My name is Tom Gakes, and I was borne on september 22th, 1988 in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands. I have an older sister, and a younger brother.

The first thing in my life I can remember is that my parents took me home from the hospital in Germany, where we lived because my father had a job there. I was in that hospital, because I suffered brain injury (that's what tey told me). I do'nt exactly know how bad it was… Continue

Maar goed dat er helmen bestaan en dat jij hem op had dan. Als ik dat zo hoor was het wel om even bang van te worden.
Blijf maar verder doen zoals je doet, lekker verstandig en dus met helm.

Tom:

Thanks for your kind comment. I like road and may be staying on the road for a while since my technical MTB skills have gone away. Trails that I could clean easily are now challenges and I find myself walking some sections, not because of physical strength, but because I do not want to crash on the gnarly downhill stuff. But the bright side is that it's like riding all new trails for the fist time.

Stay well. Be strong!

Hi Tom,

When do you have your discussions? Life is progressing in a new way for me and I am back on the ice. I competed in my first time trials a little over a week ago and it's a start. I will be competing in US championships at the end of December, hoping for the best but even with my injury it will be hard not to have lofty goals. So what Oval do you skate at? I know where herenveen is and that's about it, haha

all the best,
Liam
