Pam, I know it is months away, but good luck to you in the marathon. "I'm 'blind' and disabled, so I have a damn good excuse for being even slower now, don't I?" In my humble opinion, you don't need an excuse for anything! Run for you, for who you...

Pam: You are not imagining anything! You ARE improving! Your comment about the balance thing made me reflect. I use my morning dressing ritual as a gauge to balance improvement just as you are doing. I'd do a one-legged yoga position as an exercis...

I'll DEFINITELY be doing a marathon in April :-)

In April, I put in for the London Marathon ballot, and I should hear in the next week or two. But then I thought my second possible marathon will maybe fill up with other London rejects, before I could get in. So, stuff it, last night I signed up for the Brighton marathon. If I do get a London place, I'll decide then which one to go for. London normally lets you carry over your place, to run the next year instead. So then I'd run a marathon two years running. Gosh! (My mad husband is doing two I… Continue

Not sure if I'm imagining all this.

I am not sure if I am imagining seeing improvements, or if they are real, and telling other people about them will stop them happening (paranoid? Me?)...

I think I am seeing some improvements.
My balance is definitely getting better. I insist on standing up while I put my trousers and socks on. Daft, I know, but 6 months after the accident it was impossible, and I am still quite proud that I can do it (standing one-legged, dealing with my sock, without falling over). But I am dContinue

Happy half-marathon runner

It was the Shakespeare Half Marathon yesterday. (I signed up for the full marathon, then jet-lag coming home from Oz, lots of colds, and a few weeks of frantic work (leaving me no time for running training), made me just go for the half.

I managed a few sub-11 minute miles, which were going fine, but then at about the 5 or 6 mile point my right foot (which has played me up for a while) started hurting. Amazingly, I noticed (for the first time, after many many painful runs) that if I pressed my… Continue

A 'blind', unbalanced marathon 'runner'.

Hello. I just found this site yesterday, and it's great to have other brain injury survivors (and their families) out there.
I fell off my bike (with a helmet on!) in France in 2005. I was Lear-Jetted back to the UK a week or so later, spent weeks in intensive care (in a coma), months in hospital, and 18 months off work. I am officially 'blind', although I can see fine to the left and ahead. I see nothing at all to the right of centre. Also, my right side doesn't work properly (my handwri… Continue
