Saul,
I just posted your story to the Oprah show- as much as would fit in 2000 characters. I REALLY hope she will run with it and give the Raisin Hope Foundation and TBI the boost that it needs. Hope you are doing well.

Saul, I just emailed The Oprah Show, urging them to have you on her show and share with the world about TBI.

Hey Saul,
One of your members sent me a friend invitation today so I accepted, and then found myself wandering around, exploring. Nice job on the site. It looks like you are creating a wonderful and much needed community. Of course you know that I believe you should be on Oprah, so I'm sending her a note right now.

Done. Here's a copy...

Hi Oprah:
Please consider having Saul Raisn as a guest on the show. Saul is a professional bicycle racer who, in 2006, suffered a horrific crash while racing in France. He was in a coma for over a month and was not expected to survive. His revovery has been miraculous, in many ways.

As the survivor of a similar injury while riding my bicycle, I struggled with the same self-doubt and faced many of the same challenges that Saul faced. Saul and the many survivors at the RaisinHope foundation website, offered me support and provided hope. Now it is my turn. I try to inspire the caregivers, the loved ones, and the survivors to keep moving forward and to heal themselves!

As you are probably aware, over 300,000 members of our armed services returning from active duty in the Middle East have Acquired Brain Injuries. There are not outward signs that the survivor is injured and many go on to lives filled with depression, anger, and despair. Llittle is understood about the injury and the recovery process. In the past, people with brain injuries were institutionalized. Saul, and many of the members of the foundation, continue living their lives as caring, contributing, and thinking human beings.

I hope you see fit to visit with Saul. Our story needs to be told. He is a true hero!

Sincerely,

Randy Profeta

As a physician and someone who personally sustained a traumatic brain injury during an adventure race, my family and I found Saul's story both moving and inspirational. Just finished the Tour de Life story by D Shields. Had to take a pause after every page and was overcome with a rollercoaster of emotions. I followed the oprah link to highlight your epic story and hopefully help raise awareness. Hope! As I have found, only family and myself really know how difficult TBI is to live with. Please, keep up the good work!!

Well it took a bit of doing but, I finally sent my e-mai to Oprah. Do you know how hard it is to say everything you want to say in 2000 words...LOL I am a very wordy person. I really hope they have you as a guest that would be awsome and just think how many people could be reached and made aware of TBI surrvivors. I call it the invisible mis-understood injury. GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Here is my post to Oprah:

I think it would be great to have Saul Rasin on your show. After ending up in a coma with serious brain trauma from a bicycle accident (he is a professional racer and raced is many cycling events including the tour de france), he overcame all the odds and exceeded all expectations that doctors gave for his outcome. Most doctors did not think he would walk again, and today he is a competitive athlete. His story is so inspirational, especially for me since my son was born with vision problems and after reading his book I know to never give up hope and have a positive outlook. Even when the odds maybe stacked against us there is always a chance. Plus the way his parents treated him during the recovery process, reminded me to make sure to treat my son exactly like my daughter, not giving him extra allowance just because his vision is not as good as my daughter's.

I feel that allowing him to share his story will help all people who are dealing with medical issues. Especially those who are fighting against the odds.
